The flesh is fine-textured with a mild, sweet, slightly nutty flavour.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is a genuinely old variety. It was recorded in the French \u003cem\u003eAlbum Vilmorin\u003c\/em\u003e of 1854–55 as Robertson’s Golden Ball and was also known as Orange Jelly. Late 19th-century seed catalogues specifically classified it among the yellow-fleshed turnips and praised it as a fine table variety.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eExcellent roasted, simmered, mashed or added to soups and stews, Gold Ball is also a good keeper.
