Hollyhock Seeds
(Alcea rosea)
Hardy biennial, Old English favourite originating in China. Prefers full sunlight, sheltered position or may require staking. Tolerates light frost, likes rich soils. Sow hollyhock seeds directly into well-drained soil, either by broadcasting or planting in rows spaced 30cm apart. Cover the seeds lightly with soil, as they need some light for germination. Keep the soil moist until the seeds sprout, typically within 10-14 days. Sow late summer and autumn.
