Sunflower
Helianthus annuus
Sunflowers are originally from Peru, Mexico and North America. We recommend to grow in the warmer months. Great if you can get the kernels out from an existing sunflower, but even better to sprout the seeds. Sunflowers produce a high quality oil which has many applications. They're very attractive in the garden and best in light well drained soil. Also grows well in hot dry times. Their deep roots help aerate the soil and can improve soil structure, promoting better drainage and nutrient availability. Sow after frost.
