Amaranthus spp., Fagopyrum esculentum, Salvia hispanica, Cichorium intybus, Trifolium spp., Dactylis glomerata, Medicago sativa, Medicago spp., Echinochloa esculenta, Malva spp., Beta vulgaris, Rumex spp., Spinacia oleracea, Vicia spp.
A diverse selection of leafy greens, herbs, grasses and legumes chosen to create a productive living forage area for poultry. Suitable for chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys, the mix provides fresh vegetation to peck, graze and scratch through while encouraging the natural foraging behaviours that keep a flock active and engaged.
The mix usually includes Amaranth, Buckwheat, Chia, Chicory, Clover, Cocksfoot Savvy, Lucerne, Medic, Millet, Salad Mallow, Silverbeet, Sorrel, Spinach and Vetch, subject to seasonal availability. Many of the young leaves are useful pickings for us too.
Growing forage for poultry is a practical way to add diversity to their diet while making productive use of garden or paddock space. In return, poultry contribute manure, scratch through organic matter and help cycle nutrients back into the soil.
For the best results, allow plants to establish well before introducing birds. Rotational foraging works particularly well. Divide the growing area into sections and give birds access to one section at a time while the others recover. This helps prevent overgrazing, protects the soil and provides a more consistent supply of fresh greens.
Plant a new area every few weeks for succession and a continuing supply of forage.

Subtropics: Autumn and spring
Mild climates: Autumn and spring
Cold climates: Spring to early summer
Planting / Sowing
Broadcast evenly over prepared, weed-free soil and lightly rake seed into the surface. Keep consistently moist during germination and establishment. As the mixture contains many different species and seed sizes, germination and growth will occur progressively.
Protect newly sown areas from poultry until plants are sufficiently established to withstand grazing and scratching. For continuous forage, sow successive patches and rotate access between established areas.
This forage mix is intended as a supplementary source of fresh greens and enrichment and should be provided alongside a nutritionally complete poultry diet.
Not available for TAS or WA due to quarantine restrictions.

When to Plant (Australia)
Tropics: Autumn to winter
Subtropics: Late winter to spring
Mild climates: Spring to early summer
Cold climates: Spring after frost
Planting / Sowing
Sow approximately 5 mm deep into seed-raising mix and keep warm and consistently moist until germination. Transplant seedlings once well established and all danger of frost has passed.
Plant approximately 50–75 cm apart in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil. As these are indeterminate tomatoes, provide a sturdy trellis, stake or other support and tie plants as they grow.
As this is a mixed selection, individual colours and varieties cannot be guaranteed in equal proportions.
Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
