Filipendula ulmaria

Meadowsweet, also known as Queen of the Meadow, is a graceful perennial herb renowned for its clouds of creamy-white, sweetly fragrant flowers that bloom from late spring through summer. Growing to around 1.2 m tall, it produces elegant clusters of blossoms above attractive fern-like foliage, making it a beautiful addition to cottage gardens, wildflower meadows and damp garden areas. The flowers are highly attractive to bees and other pollinating insects.

Traditionally, Meadowsweet has been valued in European herbal medicine for centuries. Rich in naturally occurring salicylates, it has historically been used to support digestive comfort and ease occasional headaches and joint discomfort. The fragrant flowers are commonly used in herbal teas, cordials and traditional preparations, imparting a pleasant sweet aroma and flavour.

Planting / Sowing

Surface sow or lightly cover seed with a fine layer of seed-raising mix. Keep evenly moist throughout germination, as Meadowsweet naturally grows in damp environments. Transplant seedlings into rich, moisture-retentive soil in full sun or partial shade, spacing plants 30–60 cm apart. Regular watering is essential, particularly during warm weather, and plants perform best where the soil remains consistently moist but not waterlogged.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
