Ageratum houstonianum

Market Growers Blue is a tall, vigorous Ageratum producing masses of deep blue, fluffy flower clusters on stems reaching approximately 60 cm. Taller than the compact bedding forms commonly seen in gardens, it is particularly well suited to cut flower production, cottage gardens, borders and mixed flower beds.

The soft, tufted blooms provide excellent colour over a long flowering period and are attractive to bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects. Regular picking or deadheading encourages continued flowering, making it a productive addition to both cutting and pollinator gardens.

Seed count: approximately 2,400 seeds/g
Approximately 1000 seeds per packet

When to Plant (Australia)

Tropics: Autumn to spring
Subtropics: Spring and autumn
Mild climates: Spring to early summer
Cold climates: Spring after frost

Planting / Sowing

Sow onto the surface of moist seed-raising mix and press gently into place. The seed is very fine and requires light for good germination, so do not bury deeply. Keep consistently moist until seedlings are established.

Transplant into a sunny, well-drained position once seedlings are large enough to handle, spacing approximately 20–30 cm apart. Pinching young plants can encourage bushier growth and additional flowering stems.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
