Ocimum basilicum
A classic, aromatic basil and one of the most popular culinary herbs worldwide. Producing lush green leaves with a sweet, full flavoured aroma, sweet basil is used extensively in fresh and cooked dishes. Plants grow to around 90 cm tall and thrive in warm, sunny conditions. Native to subtropical regions, it is well suited to summer growing and is often planted alongside tomatoes, where it is valued as a companion plant believed to help deter nematodes. The strong scent of the foliage also helps repel flies and mosquitoes.

Planting / Sowing
For microgreens, sow seed densely over a moist growing medium and lightly press into the surface. Do not cover heavily, as basil requires light for optimal germination. Keep evenly moist and maintain warm temperatures between 20–25°C.
Harvest with scissors once the first true leaves begin to emerge, usually 15–25 days after sowing. Regular moisture and good airflow will help produce healthy, vibrant crops.
