Lobularia maritima

Rosie O'Day is a compact Sweet Alyssum producing masses of fragrant, deep rose-red flowers on low-growing plants reaching approximately 15 cm. Its spreading habit makes it ideal for garden edging, rockeries, containers, pathways and the front of cottage garden beds.

The small, nectar-rich flowers are highly attractive to bees and beneficial insects, making Alyssum particularly useful around vegetable gardens and productive growing areas. In suitable climates it can persist for 2–3 years, although it is generally treated as an annual in colder regions.

Plants flower for much of the year in mild conditions, with their strongest display typically occurring in spring. Hardy and easy to grow, Rosie O'Day performs in full sun or partial shade and prefers well-drained soil with regular moisture.

Seed count: approximately 3,000 seeds/g
Approximately 1,200 seeds per packet

When to Plant (Australia)

Tropics: Autumn to winter
Subtropics: Year round, best autumn to spring
Mild climates: Year round
Cold climates: Spring after frost

Planting / Sowing

Sow directly or into trays, scattering the fine seed over moist, well-drained soil. Sow very shallowly, pressing gently into the surface and covering only lightly.

Keep consistently moist during germination. Once established, grow in full sun to partial shade and trim lightly after flowering to encourage fresh growth and further blooms.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
