Angelica archangelica

Angelica is a majestic, aromatic biennial to short-lived perennial growing to around 2 m tall, long treasured for both its culinary and traditional medicinal uses. The hollow stems, leaf stalks and leaves have been used in confectionery, baking and herbal liqueurs, while the roots have a long history of use in Western herbal medicine. In summer, large globe-like clusters of greenish-white flowers attract bees and other beneficial insects, adding architectural interest to the garden. Angelica thrives in rich, moisture-retentive soil in a sheltered position with partial shade. As the seed has a naturally short viability, it is best sown fresh. If storage is necessary, keep seed refrigerated. Supply is limited.

Approximately 350–450 seeds per gram
Approximately 60 seeds per packet

When to Plant (Australia)

Tropics: May to June
Subtropics: September to November
Mild climates: October to November
Cold climates: November to December

Planting / Sowing

Sow seed in spring after the risk of frost has passed. Sow 12 mm deep into moist, well-prepared soil and keep evenly watered throughout germination. The ideal soil temperature is 10–25°C. Space plants 40–45 cm apart with 50–60 cm between rows. Grow in a moist, fertile position with partial shade for best growth, ensuring the soil does not dry out during the growing season.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
