A traditional medicinal herb widely used in Chinese medicine. The aromatic root is valued for its analgesic and antibacterial actions and has been traditionally used to treat toothaches and headaches. Externally, the root has been applied in preparations for mastitis and infected wounds. Bai Zhi is an important species in classical Chinese herbal medicine and is primarily grown for its medicinal root rather than culinary use.

When to Plant (Australia)
Tropics: May to July (coolest months only)
Subtropics: April to June
Mild climates: March to May
Cold and forest climates: September to October, or autumn where winters are not severe
Planting / Sowing
Seed is short lived and best sown fresh. Sow seed onto the surface of moist, well drained soil and lightly press in or cover very lightly. Germination is improved by cool conditions and consistent moisture. Grow in full sun to part shade in fertile soil. Space plants 40 to 50 cm apart to allow for mature root development. Avoid sowing in warm soil, as high temperatures can inhibit germination.
Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.

Flower seeds: As fellow gardening enthusiasts we share the love for planting and nurturing our own flowers in addition to our veggie gardens. Our carefully selected range of flower seeds, available for convenient online purchase, holds a special place in our hearts. Like the endangered vegetables we've championed, these flower varieties face the risk of vanishing forever. Some of these older strains are incredibly rare, and it's a source of immense pride for us to offer and deliver these precious flower seeds Australia-wide.
