Phaseolus vulgaris

An heirloom carried by the Cherokee people in the 1830s as they were forcibly displaced by the United States government from their ancestral homelands and marched over the long journey now known as the Trail of Tears. An attractive climbing bean producing long, pale green pods tinged with purple and bearing shiny black seeds. Mainly eaten as a fresh bean but can also be dried.

Approximately 20 seeds per packet

When to Plant (Australia)
Tropics: September to March
Subtropics: October to February
Mild climates: Late spring to summer
Cold climates: After frost has passed

Planting / Sowing
Sow seed directly into warm, well drained soil in full sun once soil temperatures are consistently warm. Provide sturdy support for climbing plants. Space seeds 10 to 15 cm apart and keep soil evenly moist during establishment. Harvest pods young for fresh use or allow beans to mature fully for drying.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
