Phaseolus vulgaris


An original stringless bean dating back to 1810, thought to have originated in Germany and named for its ease of preparation. Produces round pods to around 20 cm with excellent flavour. A heavy bearer over a long period, remaining largely stringless even when pods are mature.

Subtropics: October to February
Mild climates: Late spring to summer
Cold climates: After frost has passed

Planting / Sowing
Sow seed directly into warm, well drained soil in full sun once soil temperatures are suitable. Provide sturdy support for climbing plants. Space seeds 10 to 15 cm apart and keep soil evenly moist during establishment. Harvest from around 80 days.
