Beta vulgaris

Egyptian Beetroot is a fast-growing heirloom variety producing distinctive flat-round roots with deep red flesh and attractive lighter internal zoning. One of the earliest beetroot varieties to mature, it is prized for both its sweet, tender roots and its abundant nutritious foliage.

When grown as baby leaf greens, Egyptian Beetroot produces vibrant young leaves with rich green colouring and red stems, adding colour, texture and flavour to salads and mixed leaf harvests. The leaves are tender, mild and highly versatile, while mature plants develop the characteristic dark red roots that have made this variety a gardener's favourite for generations.

Suitable for harvesting at multiple stages, Egyptian Beetroot can be enjoyed as microgreens, baby leaf greens or mature roots. Its rapid growth and reliability make it an excellent choice for home gardeners seeking continual harvests throughout the cooler months.

Planting / Sowing

For baby leaf production, sow seed densely in trays, boxes or garden beds and harvest young leaves when they reach 8–15 cm tall, usually within 3–4 weeks. For microgreens, harvest at 3–8 cm tall approximately 10–20 days after sowing.

For mature roots, sow seed 10–15 mm deep in well-prepared soil and thin seedlings to 10 cm apart. Prefers full sun and fertile, moisture-retentive soil. Harvest roots approximately 55 days from sowing or earlier for baby beetroot.

Baby Leaf and Microgreens offer a simple and nutritious way to add fresh homegrown greens, vitamins and minerals to your daily diet.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
