Sanguisorba minor

Burnet is an attractive, compact perennial herb growing to around 40 cm tall, prized for its fresh, nutty, cucumber-like flavour. The finely divided leaves are delicious in salads, soups, herb butters and sauces, and are traditionally used to flavour cool drinks and vinegars. In addition to its culinary value, Burnet has a long history of use in traditional herbal medicine, where it was reputed to support wound healing. Rich in minerals including magnesium, it is an easy-to-grow herb that provides fresh foliage over many months of the year.

Planting / Sowing

Sow seed 5 mm deep into moist, well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Keep the soil consistently moist during germination. Space plants 30–40 cm apart to allow them to form compact clumps. Harvest the young leaves regularly for the best flavour and remove flower stems if growing primarily for foliage to encourage fresh leaf production.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
