Brassica rapa subsp. chinensis

Pak Choi 'White Stem' is a fast-growing Chinese cabbage variety producing broad green leaves and crisp white stems on vigorous, open-leaved plants. Easy to grow and highly productive, it is a popular choice for home gardeners seeking a reliable supply of fresh greens throughout the cooler months.

The tender stems and nutritious leaves are rich in vitamins A, B and C and can be enjoyed both raw and cooked. Young leaves add a mild, refreshing flavour to salads, while mature plants are excellent in stir-fries, soups, steamed dishes and other Asian-inspired meals. Plants can be harvested whole or picked leaf by leaf over an extended period.

Quick to mature and slow to become tough, White Stem Pak Choi provides generous harvests from a relatively small growing space. Its adaptability and long harvesting window make it a valuable addition to kitchen gardens, raised beds and containers.

Planting / Sowing

Sow seed 5 mm deep directly into prepared garden beds or into seedling trays for transplanting. Space plants 20–30 cm apart in rows 30 cm apart. Sow successively every few weeks for a continuous harvest.

Grow in full sun to partial shade in fertile, moisture-retentive soil enriched with compost. Keep plants well watered to encourage rapid, tender growth. Harvest from 45–60 days after sowing by cutting whole plants or picking outer leaves as required.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
