Celosia argentea

Forest Fire is a striking semi-dwarf Celosia producing showy scarlet flower plumes above contrasting dark foliage. Growing approximately 75–90 cm tall, it creates a dramatic display in garden beds, borders and large containers and makes an excellent cut flower.

Native to tropical regions, Celosia has been cultivated in Europe since at least the 16th century. Forest Fire thrives in warm weather and full sun, although it will tolerate some light shade. It is a hardy and easy-to-grow annual once established but is sensitive to frost.

Regular watering during dry weather encourages strong growth and flowering, while mulching around plants can help retain soil moisture through summer.

Seed count: approximately 1,500 seeds/g
Approximately 500 seeds per packet

When to Plant (Australia)

Tropics: Spring to autumn
Subtropics: Spring to summer
Mild climates: Spring to summer
Cold climates: Late spring to summer after frost

Planting / Sowing

Sow directly or raise in trays during spring and summer once conditions are warm. Sow shallowly, covering the fine seed only lightly, and keep consistently moist during germination.

Transplant once seedlings are established, spacing approximately 25–30 cm apart. Grow in full sun for the strongest flowering and foliage colour, in fertile, well-drained soil.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
