Ammobium alatum

Winged Everlasting is an Australian native perennial producing masses of papery white flowers with prominent golden-yellow centres above attractive silvery-green foliage. Flowering generously throughout summer, it brings a light, airy quality to native gardens, cottage gardens, wildflower plantings and cutting gardens.

The distinctive papery blooms are excellent for both fresh and dried flower arrangements, retaining their form particularly well when dried. In the garden, the flowers also provide a valuable food source for butterflies, including the Australian painted lady, as well as other pollinating insects.

Hardy and adaptable once established, Winged Everlasting performs best in full sun and well-drained soil. Although perennial, it can be treated as an annual in colder or frost-prone climates.

Approximately 200 seeds per packet

When to Plant (Australia)

Tropics: Autumn to winter
Subtropics: Autumn to spring
Mild climates: Autumn and spring
Cold climates: Spring after frost

Planting / Sowing

Sow directly or raise in trays, scattering the fine seed over moist soil and covering only very lightly. Keep moist during germination and establishment.

Transplant once seedlings are large enough to handle into a sunny, well-drained position. For dried flowers, harvest stems when the blooms are freshly open and hang upside down in a dry, well-ventilated place.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
