(Dyer's Chamomile) (Anthemis tinctoria)

Anthemis tinctoria is a long cultivated European perennial, traditionally grown for both its bright yellow flowers and its use as a natural dye plant. It was widely used in historical dyeing practices to produce shades of yellow, particularly for wool and textiles, giving rise to the name dyer’s chamomile. Plants form tidy clumps of finely divided, aromatic foliage topped with masses of golden daisy like flowers through the warmer months. Long flowering, hardy, and drought tolerant once established, it is well suited to borders, wildflower gardens, and pollinator plantings. A useful and ornamental plant with a long history of practical use.

Golden Marguerite is easy to grow and well suited to Australian conditions. Sow seed in spring or autumn in cooler climates, or autumn to early winter in warmer regions. Prefers full sun and free draining soil. Seeds germinate best when lightly covered. Keep soil moist during establishment, then reduce watering once plants are established, as they are drought tolerant. Plants form neat clumps and benefit from occasional deadheading to encourage prolonged flowering. Perennial in mild climates and often grown as a short lived perennial or hardy annual elsewhere. Cut back after flowering to maintain shape and encourage fresh growth. Plants typically reach 60 to 90 cm tall and around 45 to 60 cm wide. Space plants approximately 45 to 60 cm apart to allow for good air flow and full clump development
