Medicago scutellata

Sava Snail Medic is a self-regenerating annual pasture legume well suited to lower rainfall areas and alkaline soils. Growing most actively through the cooler months, it provides useful forage while also serving as a productive green manure and soil-building crop.

As a legume, Snail Medic forms a symbiotic relationship with beneficial soil bacteria, fixing atmospheric nitrogen through root nodules and helping build fertility for following crops. Once established, plants can set seed and regenerate naturally in subsequent seasons when conditions are favourable, making it particularly useful in longer-term pasture and rotation systems.

Sava is valued for its aphid resistance and ability to perform in conditions where many other pasture legumes may struggle. Its preference for alkaline soils makes it particularly useful in suitable low-rainfall farming regions.

Planting / Sowing

Sow into moist, prepared soil in autumn, broadcasting evenly and lightly covering the seed. Keep moist during establishment where rainfall is insufficient.

For maximum nitrogen fixation, treat seed with the appropriate Medic inoculant (Group AM) where compatible rhizobia are not already established in the soil.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety.
