Eucalyptus cinerea

A highly ornamental Australian native prized for its distinctive round, silvery-blue foliage. The juvenile leaves, often referred to as "silver dollars", are widely sought after by florists and are commonly used in fresh and dried floral arrangements, wreaths and decorative displays. The foliage has a soft eucalyptus fragrance and provides striking contrast in gardens and landscapes.

Silver Dollar Gum is a fast-growing tree that develops an attractive upright habit and smooth bark with age. It produces clusters of creamy white flowers that attract bees and other pollinators. Regular pruning can encourage the production of the juvenile foliage favoured by florists, making it suitable for cut flower production as well as ornamental planting.

Approximately 100 seeds per packet

When to Plant (Australia)
Tropics: Autumn to spring
Subtropics: Autumn to spring
Mild climates: Spring and autumn
Cold climates: Spring after frost has passed

Planting / Sowing
Sow seed onto the surface of a fine, free-draining seed raising mix and lightly press into the soil without covering deeply, as light assists germination. Keep consistently moist but not waterlogged and provide good airflow around seedlings. Position in a bright location with filtered light until germination occurs. Transplant carefully once seedlings are large enough to handle and plant into a sunny, well-drained position. Prune regularly if growing for cut foliage production to encourage fresh juvenile growth.
