Brassica rapa subsp. chinensis

Pak Choi 'Canton White' is a productive Chinese cabbage variety with deep green leaves and short, broad white stems that are thick, crisp and succulent. Renowned for its excellent eating quality and good heat tolerance, it is an ideal choice for gardeners seeking reliable harvests across a wide growing season.

The contrast between the dark green foliage and bright white stems makes this variety as attractive in the garden as it is on the plate. The tender stems and leaves are perfect for stir-fries, soups, steaming and fresh Asian-style dishes. Young plants can also be harvested whole as baby vegetables.

Compared with many traditional pak choi varieties, Canton White performs particularly well through warmer conditions, making it suitable for sowing from spring through autumn in most parts of Australia. Its compact growth habit also makes it well suited to raised beds, kitchen gardens and container growing.

Planting / Sowing

Sow seed 5 mm deep directly into prepared garden beds or into trays for transplanting. Space plants 20–30 cm apart in rows 30 cm apart. For a continuous supply, sow small amounts every few weeks throughout the growing season.

Grow in full sun to partial shade in fertile, well-drained soil enriched with compost. Keep soil consistently moist to encourage rapid growth and tender stems. Harvest individual leaves as required or cut whole plants once they reach a suitable size.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
