A classic heritage asparagus producing thick, dark green shoots with excellent flavour. Developed in 1873 and listed in Australia by 1897, ‘Connover’s Colossal’ was the most popular asparagus variety for many years before being superseded by Mary Washington. Plants are long lived and productive once established, making this a rewarding crop for patient gardeners with space for a permanent bed.

Transplant or thin seedlings to 30 to 45 cm apart, with rows spaced 90 to 120 cm apart. Avoid harvesting in the first year to allow crowns to establish. Well prepared soil and patience will be rewarded with heavy yields for many years.
