A well known and reliable asparagus producing long, straight, large spears with tight tips and excellent flavour. ‘Mary Washington’ is valued for its resistance to some types of rust and consistent performance across a range of conditions. It became the most popular asparagus variety in Australia during the 1940s and remains a trusted choice for home gardeners establishing permanent asparagus beds. Once established, plants are long lived and highly productive.

Planting / Sowing
Sow seed 1 to 2 cm deep into well drained, fertile soil in full sun. Keep soil evenly moist during germination, which may take several weeks. Thin or transplant seedlings to 30 to 45 cm apart, with rows spaced 90 to 120 cm apart. Do not harvest in the first year, allowing crowns to fully establish for long term productivity.
Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
