Portulaca oleracea var. sativa

Large Yellow Purslane is a fast-growing, succulent leafy green producing fleshy stems and large, juicy leaves with a fresh, slightly tangy flavour. Particularly well suited to baby leaf production, it provides crisp, refreshing greens that can be harvested repeatedly throughout the growing season.

The tender young leaves and stems are delicious eaten fresh in salads, sandwiches and wraps or used as a garnish. They can also be lightly cooked, added to stir-fries, soups and vegetable dishes. Purslane has a pleasant lemony tang and succulent texture that sets it apart from more traditional salad greens.

Purslane is naturally rich in nutrients and is particularly notable among leafy vegetables as a plant source of omega-3 fatty acids. Heat tolerant and vigorous, it thrives in warm conditions and quickly produces fresh growth after cutting.

Approximately 2,000 seeds per gram

Planting / Sowing

For microgreens, sow the tiny seeds densely over the surface of a moist growing medium and press gently into place. Cover only very lightly, if at all, and keep consistently moist during germination.

For baby leaf production, sow more thinly in trays, containers or garden beds. Allow plants to develop their succulent leaves and stems, then cut back to approximately 50 mm above ground level. Plants will readily regrow, providing repeated harvests under favourable conditions.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
