Beta vulgaris

Early Wonder Beetroot is a reliable heirloom variety valued for both its excellent roots and abundant leafy tops. Producing tall, vigorous foliage and attractive flattened globe-shaped roots, it is particularly popular among gardeners who enjoy harvesting both beet greens and beetroot from the same crop.

The dark red roots are sweet, tender and flavoursome, often displaying attractive internal colour zoning. The large leafy tops are among the best of any beetroot variety for cooking or harvesting as baby salad greens, making Early Wonder a versatile choice for kitchen gardens and market growers alike.

Originally developed for its adaptability and productivity, Early Wonder performs particularly well in warmer conditions and is often considered one of the better beetroot varieties for summer planting. Fast growing and dependable, it matures in approximately 55 days while providing an earlier harvest of tender leaves along the way.

Planting / Sowing

For baby leaf production, sow seed densely in trays, boxes or garden beds and harvest leaves when they reach 8–15 cm tall. For mature roots, sow seed directly into prepared soil 10–15 mm deep and thin seedlings to 10 cm apart. Beetroot performs best when direct sown and prefers not to have its roots disturbed.

Grow in full sun to partial shade in fertile, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. Keep soil evenly moist throughout growth for the best quality roots and leafy growth. Harvest roots at approximately 55 days from sowing or earlier as tender baby beets.

Baby Leaf and Microgreens offer a simple and nutritious way to add fresh homegrown greens, vitamins and minerals to your daily diet.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
