Beta vulgaris

Mix Of Colours is a colourful blend of beetroot varieties producing roots in deep red, golden yellow, white and striking pink-and-white striped forms. The mixture brings together different flavours, colours and textures for a varied harvest from a single sowing.

Harvest the roots at baby size for pickling, eating whole or grating raw into salads, or allow them to reach full size for roasting, juicing, soups and preserving. The young leaves are also excellent eating and can be harvested while the roots develop, used fresh in salads or cooked like other leafy greens.

Beetroot has its origins around northern Africa and the Mediterranean and has been cultivated since ancient times, initially for its leaves rather than its roots. Both roots and leaves are nutritious, with the greens particularly rich in vitamin C. Plants perform best in fertile soil with a pH above 6 and consistent moisture throughout root development.

Approximately 200 seeds per packet.

When to Plant (Australia)

Tropics: March–August
Subtropics: February–October
Mild climates: February–November
Cold climates: August–April

Planting / Sowing

Sow approximately 1–2 cm deep directly into prepared soil, or raise in trays and transplant carefully while seedlings are young. Thin seedlings to approximately 5–10 cm apart, using tender young thinnings as baby leaf greens if desired.

Grow in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil with a pH above 6 and maintain consistent moisture to encourage tender, evenly developed roots. Harvest young for baby beets or allow roots to reach full size. Mature roots store well after harvest in cool conditions.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
