Daucus carota

Nantes is a classic French heirloom dating from the 1880s and named after the city of Nantes. It produces bright orange, nearly coreless, cylindrical roots up to 17 cm long with smooth skin and rounded tips. Renowned for its exceptional sweetness, crisp texture, and excellent flavour, Nantes is ideal for fresh eating, salads, soups, juicing, baking, and cooking. Young roots are especially tender, while mature carrots store well when kept away from fruit. For best results in Australia, sow during the cooler months. Matures in around 70 days.

Approximately 600 seeds per packet

When to Plant (Australia)
Tropics: April to August
Subtropics: March to September
Mild climates: Almost year round, avoiding the hottest months
Cold climates: Spring to autumn

Planting / Sowing
Sow seed directly into well prepared, loose soil in full sun. Plant seeds 5 mm deep in rows and thin seedlings to 3–5 cm apart once established. Keep the soil evenly moist during germination, which may take 10–21 days. Harvest from around 70 days when roots have reached full size.
