Daucus carota subsp. sativus

Topweight is a vigorous, heavy-yielding Carrot producing large, well-developed orange roots with excellent flavour and texture. A reliable garden variety, it is particularly valued for its good resistance to pests and carrot virus, helping plants maintain healthy growth through the season.

The substantial roots are sweet and crisp, making them excellent for fresh eating, juicing, grating into salads or cooking in soups, stews and roasts. Its generous root size and dependable yields also make Topweight a useful variety for gardeners wanting a productive crop for preserving and storage.

Maturing in approximately 80 days, Topweight performs best in full sun with loose, friable, well-drained soil. Prepare the soil deeply and remove stones and other obstructions before sowing to encourage large, straight roots. Avoid fresh manure, which can cause carrots to fork.

Approximately 600 seeds per packet

When to Plant (Australia)

Tropics: Autumn to winter
Subtropics: Most of the year, with best results autumn to spring
Mild climates: Spring to autumn
Cold climates: Spring to early autumn, avoiding periods of heavy frost

Planting / Sowing

Sow directly where plants are to grow, approximately 5–10 mm deep. Carrots dislike transplanting. Keep the soil surface consistently moist until germination.

Thin seedlings to approximately 3–5 cm apart once established, using young thinnings as baby carrots. Maintain even moisture throughout root development to encourage large, tender and evenly shaped roots.

Maturity: approximately 80 days.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
