Phaseolus vulgaris
Speckled Cranberry Bean traces its roots to the Indigenous peoples of the Americas, where it was cultivated for centuries before becoming a staple in early European settler gardens. Introduced to Italy in the 1600s, where it is closely related to the Borlotti, this bush bean is loved for its plump cream coloured seeds splashed with deep burgundy. With a rich, nutty flavour and smooth texture, it shines in soups, stews, and slow cooked dishes. Grown for shelling fresh or drying for storage, it is as practical as it is beautiful. Classified as a bush but appreciates some support to gently climb.
