Hypericum perforatum

St John’s Wort is a hardy perennial medicinal herb producing masses of bright golden-yellow flowers through the warmer months. An established plant can form an attractive flowering clump, making it useful in herb gardens and traditional medicinal gardens while also providing flowers for pollinating insects.

One of the best-known herbs in Western herbal medicine, the flowering tops have a long history of traditional use and are commonly prepared as infused oils, teas, tinctures and extracts. The characteristic yellow flowers contain glands that release a reddish pigment when crushed.

Planting / Sowing

Sow onto the surface of moist seed-raising mix and press gently into place. Cover only very lightly, as the fine seed benefits from light for germination. Keep moist but not waterlogged until seedlings are established.

Transplant into a sunny, well-drained position once seedlings are large enough to handle. Established plants are hardy and relatively drought tolerant.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
