Cosmos sulphureus

Bright Lights is a dazzling warm-toned cosmos mix producing masses of vivid flowers in shades of golden yellow, orange and fiery red-orange. The bright blooms are held above finely divided green foliage, creating a lively display through the warmer months.

Plants grow to approximately 80 cm tall and work beautifully through cottage gardens, borders, wildflower plantings and informal garden beds. The flowers are highly attractive to butterflies, bees and other beneficial insects and are also useful as cheerful cut flowers.

A hardy, heat-tolerant annual, Bright Lights thrives in sunny positions and is easy to grow across a wide range of well-drained soils. Avoid excessive fertiliser, which can encourage leafy growth at the expense of flowers, and deadhead regularly to prolong flowering.

Approximately 40 seeds per packet.

When to Plant (Australia)

Tropics: September–April
Subtropics: September–March
Mild climates: September–February
Cold climates: October–January, after frost risk has passed

Planting / Sowing

Sow approximately 5 mm deep directly where plants are to grow once the soil has warmed, or raise in punnets for later transplanting. In frost-prone climates, sow after the last frost or start seed under protection beforehand.

Space plants approximately 25–30 cm apart in full sun and well-drained soil. Water regularly while establishing, then moderately once plants are growing strongly. Deadhead or cut flowers regularly to encourage continued blooming.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
