Ipomoea lobata

Exotic Love is a spectacular fast-growing climber producing masses of unusual cascading flowers that change colour as they mature. The slender blooms emerge rich crimson before progressing through orange and yellow to creamy white, creating a striking multi-coloured effect along each flower spike.

Also known as Spanish Flag, this vigorous ornamental vine is ideal for growing over trellises, fences, arches and pergolas, where the colourful flowers create an impressive display throughout the warmer months. The long flowering stems can also be used as an unusual addition to cut flower arrangements.

A tender perennial in warm climates and generally grown as an annual in cooler regions, Exotic Love thrives in warm conditions, full sun and fertile, well-drained soil. Provide a sturdy climbing structure from an early stage.

Seed count: approximately 35 seeds/g
Approximately 15 seeds per packet

When to Plant (Australia)

Tropics: Spring to autumn
Subtropics: Spring to summer
Mild climates: Spring to early summer
Cold climates: Late spring after frost

Planting / Sowing

Sow directly or raise in pots once conditions are warm, planting approximately 10–15 mm deep. Soaking the seed for several hours before sowing can help encourage germination.

Transplant carefully once seedlings are established, spacing approximately 30–45 cm apart. Grow in full sun and provide a trellis, fence or other sturdy support for the vigorous vines to climb.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
