Phacelia tanacetifolia

Lacy Phacelia is a beautiful, fast-growing flowering plant producing masses of curled clusters of soft lilac to lavender flowers above finely divided, fern-like foliage. Growing up to approximately 1 m tall, it is an excellent addition to productive gardens, wildflower plantings and areas dedicated to beneficial insects.

Considered an outstanding bee forage plant, Phacelia produces abundant nectar and pollen and attracts honeybees, native bees and a wide range of other beneficial and pollinating insects. Its quick growth also makes it useful as a cover crop or green manure, helping to protect bare soil and add organic matter when cut down.

In mild climates, Lacy Phacelia can be grown through winter, while in colder areas it is generally treated as an annual. It prefers full sun and well-drained soil but is adaptable and easy to establish.

Seed count: approximately 700 seeds/g
Approximately 400 seeds per packet

When to Plant (Australia)

Tropics: Autumn to winter
Subtropics: Autumn to spring
Mild climates: Autumn to spring
Cold climates: Spring after frost

Planting / Sowing

Sow directly where plants are to grow, covering seed lightly with approximately 5 mm of soil. Keep moist during germination and establishment.

Thin seedlings to approximately 15–30 cm apart, depending on whether plants are being grown for flowers or as a cover crop. For green manure, cut plants before or during early flowering and leave on the soil surface or lightly incorporate into the topsoil.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
