Rudbeckia hirta

Gloriosa Daisies Mixed is a striking Rudbeckia producing masses of large, daisy-like flowers in rich autumnal shades of golden yellow, bronze, mahogany and deep red, often with contrasting bands and dark chocolate-brown centres. Growing to approximately 90 cm tall, the upright plants create a bold display over a long flowering period.

Excellent for cottage gardens, borders, wildflower plantings and cutting gardens, the strong stems and richly coloured blooms make beautiful cut flowers. Flowers left in the garden are highly attractive to bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects, while mature seed heads can provide food for seed-eating birds.

Hardy and easy to grow, Rudbeckia performs best in full sun and well-drained soil. Although Rudbeckia hirta is technically a short-lived perennial, it is often grown as an annual or biennial and can readily self-seed in favourable conditions.

Seed count: approximately 1,800 seeds/g
Approximately 300 seeds per packet

When to Plant (Australia)

Tropics: Autumn to winter in cooler locations
Subtropics: Autumn to spring
Mild climates: Autumn and spring
Cold climates: Spring after frost

Planting / Sowing

Sow directly or raise in trays, pressing the seed gently onto the surface of moist soil or seed-raising mix. Cover only very lightly, as light can assist germination.

Transplant or thin seedlings to approximately 30–40 cm apart in full sun and well-drained soil. Regular deadheading encourages continued flowering, or leave selected seed heads to mature for birds and natural self-seeding.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
