Lathyrus odoratus

Spencer Choice Mix is a classic English Sweetpea producing large, beautifully ruffled flowers in a rich mixture of colours. Spencer-type Sweetpeas are renowned for their elegant flower form, long stems and wonderful fragrance, making them enduring favourites for both cottage gardens and cut flower production.

The Spencer Sweetpea traces its history to the garden of the Earl of Spencer, where the distinctive large, waved flower form emerged around the beginning of the 20th century. Vigorous climbing plants produce an abundance of blooms over a long period when flowers are regularly picked.

Ideal for trellises, fences, arches and dedicated cutting gardens, Spencer Choice Mix performs best in cool growing conditions with full sun, rich, fertile soil and regular moisture.

Seed count: approximately 10 seeds/g
Approximately 30 seeds per packet

When to Plant (Australia)

Tropics: Autumn to winter in cooler locations
Subtropics: Autumn to winter
Mild climates: Autumn to early winter
Cold climates: Autumn or late winter to early spring

Planting / Sowing

Sow directly where plants are to grow, approximately 2–3 cm deep. Alternatively, raise in individual pots or cells and transplant carefully while young. Keep soil consistently moist during germination.

Space plants approximately 15–20 cm apart and provide a sturdy trellis, fence or other support for climbing. Regularly pick flowers and remove developing seed pods to encourage continued blooming.

Sweetpea seeds and other parts of the plant are not edible and should not be confused with edible garden peas.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
