Nepeta × faassenii

Faassen's Catmint is a compact, ornamental perennial grown for its masses of soft lavender-blue flowers and fragrant grey-green foliage. Flowering over a long season from late spring into summer, it forms an attractive, spreading ground cover that is highly attractive to bees, butterflies and other beneficial pollinators. Unlike true catnip (Nepeta cataria), Faassen's Catmint has a pleasant aromatic scent but generally does not attract or stimulate cats. Drought tolerant once established, it is ideal for borders, rockeries, cottage gardens and mass plantings.

Planting / Sowing

Sow seed on the surface of a well-drained seed-raising mix, covering only lightly with fine soil or vermiculite as light assists germination. Keep evenly moist until seedlings emerge. Transplant into a sunny position with well-drained soil, spacing plants 30–45 cm apart. Trim plants lightly after flowering to encourage fresh growth and repeat flowering.
