Anthemis nobilis / Chamaemelum nobile

A charming low-growing perennial herb with finely divided, aromatic foliage and masses of cheerful white daisy-like flowers. Roman Chamomile forms a soft, fragrant carpet that has long been valued as a groundcover, lawn alternative and cottage garden favourite.

The sweetly scented flowers attract bees and other beneficial insects while providing months of colour through the warmer seasons. Unlike German Chamomile, which is an annual, Roman Chamomile is a perennial that returns year after year, gradually spreading to form dense mats of feathery foliage.

Traditionally, the flowers have been used in herbal teas and infusions and are regarded as one of the gentlest and most widely loved calming herbs. The aromatic foliage releases a pleasant apple-like fragrance when brushed against or walked upon, making it particularly suited to pathways, seating areas and sensory gardens.

Roman Chamomile thrives in full sun and well-drained soil and is well suited to borders, herb gardens, rockeries and informal lawn areas.

Approximately 4,000 seeds per packet

When to Plant (Australia)
Tropics: April to August
Subtropics: March to September
Mild climates: Autumn to spring
Cold climates: Spring and autumn

Planting / Sowing
Sow seed on the surface of moist soil and press down gently, as light assists germination. Do not cover seed. Seed may be sown directly where plants are to grow or started in trays and transplanted carefully. Plant in full sun and well-drained soil. Keep soil lightly moist until established. Space plants approximately 20–30cm apart. Once established, Roman Chamomile is relatively drought tolerant and will gradually spread to form a fragrant groundcover.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety
