Lycium barbarum

Goji Berry is a hardy deciduous shrub prized for both its nutritious fruit and long history in Chinese cuisine and traditional herbal medicine. Growing to 2–3 m tall, it produces attractive purple flowers followed by brilliant orange-red berries that ripen from late summer into autumn. The sweet fruits can be eaten fresh, dried or added to soups, stews and desserts, while the tender young leaves and shoots are also enjoyed as a nutritious leafy green.

A long-lived and productive plant, Goji Berry thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, tolerating drought once established. Traditionally, the berries have been valued for supporting general wellbeing, while the leaves have also been used as both a food and herbal ingredient. Plants typically begin producing fruit within two to three years from seed.

Planting / Sowing

Sow seed 3–5 mm deep in a quality seed-raising mix and keep evenly moist in a warm, bright position. Germination is usually best between 20–25°C. Transplant seedlings into full sun with fertile, well-drained soil, spacing plants 1.5–2 m apart. Water regularly while establishing, then reduce watering once plants are mature. Prune annually to maintain shape and encourage productive new growth.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
