Geranium robertianum

Herb Robert is a delicate annual or short-lived biennial herb with finely divided fern-like foliage that often develops attractive red tints in cooler weather. Small, bright pink five-petalled flowers appear from spring through autumn, making it a charming addition to woodland gardens, shaded borders and naturalistic plantings. Growing to around 30 cm tall, it thrives in moist, sheltered positions where many other herbs struggle.

Traditionally, Herb Robert has been used in European herbal medicine, with the leaves commonly prepared as herbal teas and other traditional remedies. It is an easy-care plant that readily self-seeds in suitable conditions, providing a continual display of flowers while attracting bees and other beneficial insects.

Planting / Sowing

Surface sow or lightly cover seed with no more than 2–3 mm of fine seed-raising mix. Keep the soil evenly moist and position trays in a shaded or lightly filtered position until germination. Transplant seedlings into rich, moist, well-drained soil in part shade to full shade, spacing plants 20–30 cm apart. Allow some plants to set seed if you would like them to naturalise.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
