Pennyroyal is a low-growing perennial mint valued for its highly aromatic foliage and traditional use as a companion plant. Forming a spreading mat of small leaves, it is ideal for planting along pathways, between pavers, around garden beds or in containers where its distinctive fragrance is released when brushed or walked upon. During the warmer months, plants produce attractive clusters of lilac to mauve flowers that are highly attractive to pollinators.
A member of the mint family, Pennyroyal has long been grown for its strongly scented essential oils. Traditionally, it has been planted around homes, animal shelters and gardens to help deter ants, mosquitoes, fleas and moths. Its dense growth habit also makes it useful as a living groundcover in suitable climates.
Pennyroyal prefers moist, fertile soil and performs best in partial shade, although it will tolerate full sun where adequate moisture is available. Like many mints, it spreads readily and may be best grown in containers or confined areas if unrestricted growth is not desired.
Important: Pennyroyal contains potent essential oils and is grown primarily as an ornamental, companion and aromatic herb. The concentrated essential oil should not be consumed.

Planting / Sowing
Surface sow seed onto moist seed-raising mix and press lightly into place, as light assists germination. Do not cover seed deeply. Keep evenly moist until seedlings emerge. Transplant into fertile soil in a partly shaded position, spacing plants 30–40 cm apart. Maintain regular moisture for best growth. Plants can be trimmed as required to encourage dense growth and contain spreading.
Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety.
