Allium fistulosum

Onion Microgreens and Baby Greens deliver a fresh, distinctive onion flavour in tender green shoots, without the tears! Crisp, aromatic and versatile, they are an excellent way to add an onion kick to meals without needing to harvest a mature bulb.

The slender green shoots are delicious scattered over soups, burgers, salads, eggs and savoury dishes or combined with other varieties in a colourful microgreen blend. Their upright growth and fine leaves also make them an attractive garnish for culinary presentation.

Onion greens are naturally nutritious, providing vitamins and minerals including vitamins A, B, C and E, calcium, iron, zinc, phosphorus, magnesium and potassium. Easy to grow in trays and containers, they offer a convenient supply of fresh onion flavour throughout the year.

Approximately 450 seeds per gram

Planting / Sowing

For microgreens, sow seed densely over a moist growing medium and cover lightly with a fine layer of seed-raising mix. Keep evenly moist during germination and provide bright light and good airflow once shoots emerge.

Onion microgreens are slower growing than many brassica microgreens, so allow a little extra time for development. Harvest with scissors once shoots are well established and approximately 8–15 cm tall. For larger greens, allow plants to continue growing and harvest leaves as required.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
