Florida Broadleaf is a vigorous, productive Mustard Green producing broad, dark green leaves with gently serrated edges and tender, creamy-coloured ribs. The large rounded to oval leaves can reach approximately 20 cm long and provide generous harvests over a relatively short growing period.
Young leaves have a fresh, peppery mustard flavour and can be picked for salads, sandwiches and mixed baby greens. As the leaves mature, their flavour becomes stronger and more pungent. Cooking mellows the heat considerably, making them excellent steamed, sautéed, braised or added to soups, curries and stir-fries.
Mustard greens have been cultivated for thousands of years, particularly throughout Asia, where Brassica juncea developed into an enormous diversity of leafy, stem and root vegetables. Florida Broadleaf became a popular American mustard variety, particularly in the southern United States, where cooked mustard greens are a traditional part of regional cuisine.
Fast growing and tolerant of cool conditions, Florida Broadleaf is an excellent cut-and-come-again vegetable. Harvest individual outer leaves while leaving the central growing point intact and plants will continue producing fresh foliage. Cooler weather generally produces milder, sweeter leaves, while warm conditions intensify the mustardy flavour and encourage plants to bolt.
Seed count: approximately 300 seeds/g
Approximately 170 seeds per packet

Planting / Sowing
Sow approximately 5–10 mm deep directly into prepared soil or raise in trays for transplanting. Keep consistently moist during germination.
Space plants approximately 20–30 cm apart for mature plants, or sow more closely for baby-leaf production. Grow in full sun during cooler weather, with some afternoon shade beneficial as temperatures increase.
Mustard greens prefer fertile, well-drained soil and consistent moisture for rapid, tender growth. Begin harvesting young leaves as required or allow plants to develop larger leaves for cooking. Regular harvesting encourages continued production.
If saving seed, Florida Broadleaf can cross-pollinate with other Brassica juncea varieties flowering at the same time, so appropriate isolation is required to maintain the variety true to type.
Maturity: approximately 40–60 days.
Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
