Tropaeolum majus

Salmon Gleam Nasturtium is a reliable, fast-growing variety producing masses of striking peachy-salmon coloured flowers that brighten the garden from spring through autumn. Its vigorous growth habit makes it ideal for filling garden beds, softening edges, covering bare soil or spilling attractively from containers and hanging baskets.

Like all nasturtiums, Salmon Gleam is exceptionally easy to grow and thrives in a wide range of conditions, including poorer soils where many other flowering plants struggle. The flowers and leaves are edible, adding a fresh peppery flavour and vibrant colour to salads, sandwiches and garnishes. The blooms are also highly attractive to bees and other beneficial pollinators.

Nasturtiums are widely used as companion plants in vegetable gardens. They help attract beneficial insects, act as a trap crop for aphids and may assist in deterring certain pest insects from nearby crops. Their spreading growth habit also helps suppress weeds and retain soil moisture.

A beautiful and practical addition to both ornamental and productive gardens, Salmon Gleam combines ornamental appeal with useful garden benefits.

Subtropics: March to September

Planting / Sowing

Sow seed directly where plants are to grow, 10–15 mm deep in a sunny to partly shaded position. Keep soil evenly moist during germination. Space plants 25–30 cm apart. Nasturtiums prefer well-drained soil and generally flower more prolifically when grown in moderately fertile soils rather than heavily enriched beds.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
