Lotus tetragonolobus L.

A traditional Mediterranean legume grown for its young, tender pods and attractive deep red flowers. Pods are best harvested while young, before they exceed 25 mm, to avoid toughness, and can be eaten fresh in salads, lightly stir fried, or added to soups and stews. The seeds can also be eaten like peas once mature. Plants are productive and adaptable, tolerating cooler conditions, and typically reach harvest in around 55 to 70 days.

Approximately 25 seeds per packet

When to Plant (Australia)
Tropics: Mar to Jun
Subtropics: Mar to Jul
Mild climates: Feb to Sep
Cold and forest climates: Jan to Oct

Planting / Sowing
Sow as for peas, directly into well drained soil in full sun. Sow seed 3 to 4 cm deep and keep soil evenly moist during establishment. Space plants 15 to 20 cm apart, with rows 40 to 50 cm apart. Regular harvesting of young pods encourages continued production.

Planting/sowing: Sow in early spring or late summer. Avoid hot weather. Space seeds 5–8cm apart.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
