Brassica juncea, Brassica rapa var. japonica, Brassica rapa subsp. narinosa, Brassica rapa subsp. chinensis, Eruca sativa, Diplotaxis tenuifolia

A lively, somewhat spicier alternative to our Mild Mesclun Mix, combining tender young leaves with peppery, mustardy and slightly pungent flavours. Harvested young, the different greens create a colourful and flavoursome salad mix with plenty of texture and bite.

The word mesclun comes from the Provençal mesclar, meaning "to mix". Traditionally associated with the region around Nice in southern France, mesclun developed as a changing mixture of young salad leaves rather than a single prescribed combination, making every harvest a little different.

Our Hot Mix includes Red and Green Mustards, Pak Choi, Mizuna, Rocket, Wild Rocket and Tatsoi, subject to seasonal availability. Pick young for a fresh, moderately spicy salad mix or allow leaves to grow larger for a stronger, more pronounced flavour.

Approximately 250 seeds per packet

When to Plant (Australia)

Tropics: Autumn to winter
Subtropics: Autumn to spring
Mild climates: Year round, best autumn to spring
Cold climates: Spring to autumn

Planting / Sowing

Sow directly into prepared garden beds, pots or containers, scattering seed evenly over the surface and covering lightly with fine soil. Keep consistently moist during germination.

Harvest as baby leaves when approximately 8–15 cm tall, cutting above the growing point where possible to encourage regrowth. Sow small amounts regularly for a continuous supply of fresh salad greens.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
