Helianthus annuus

Sunflower Microgreens are thick, crisp and succulent with a fresh, mild, slightly nutty flavour. One of the most substantial microgreens to grow, they produce sturdy white-green stems topped with broad green leaves and are delicious eaten straight from the tray.

The crunchy young shoots are excellent in salads, sandwiches and wraps, blended into smoothies or used as a fresh garnish. Their substantial texture makes them particularly satisfying compared with finer microgreens, while their mild flavour pairs easily with both sweet and savoury foods.

Fast growing and highly productive, sunflower microgreens are easy to grow in trays or containers. One cup of seed can produce approximately five cups of fresh shoots under good growing conditions.

Planting / Sowing

Soak seed overnight, then rinse and drain thoroughly before sowing. Spread seed densely over a tray or container filled with moist growing medium and gently press into the surface. Cover lightly and keep moist during germination, taking care not to overwater as saturated seed may rot.

Once germinated, provide plenty of bright light and good airflow. Harvest when shoots are approximately 5–10 cm tall and the first two leaves have fully opened, generally around 7–10 days after sowing. Cut just above soil level, rinse and drain well before use.

Freshly harvested sunflower microgreens can be stored in the refrigerator after they have been thoroughly dried and are best enjoyed as fresh as possible.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety.
