Solanum lycopersicum

Swift is an exceptionally early tomato producing medium-sized, round red fruits with juicy flesh and good traditional tomato flavour. With fruit maturing in as little as 54 days, it is particularly useful where the warm growing season is short.

Originating from the high-altitude prairies of British Columbia, Canada, Swift is well adapted to cool temperate conditions. Its ability to crop quickly in cooler regions makes it a valuable choice for gardeners who need tomatoes to ripen before temperatures fall.

Plants have a compact, determinate bush habit and require no staking under normal conditions. Their manageable growth makes Swift a practical choice for smaller gardens and containers as well as cool-climate vegetable plots.

Seed count: approximately 250–400 seeds per gram. Approximately 40 seeds per packet.

When to Plant (Australia)

Tropics: February–August
Subtropics: August–April
Mild climates: August–December
Cold climates: September–December, after frost risk has passed

Planting / Sowing

Sow approximately 5 mm deep into seed-raising mix or directly where conditions are warm. In cooler climates, seed can be started indoors approximately five weeks before transplanting after the last frost. Best soil temperature for germination is approximately 16–35°C.

Space plants approximately 40–60 cm apart with 60–150 cm between rows. Grow in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil. Plants have a compact, self-supporting bush habit and generally do not require staking. Water at soil level where possible and avoid waterlogged conditions.

Maturity: approximately 54 days.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety
