Physalis peruviana

'Golden Nugget'

A productive and easy-to-grow perennial fruiting plant that produces masses of sweet, juicy golden-yellow berries enclosed within delicate papery husks. Growing to approximately 1 metre in height, Cape Gooseberry is perennial in warm climates and often grown as an annual in cooler regions. Plants are typically most productive during their first and second years, though they may continue fruiting for up to three years in favourable conditions.

The marble-sized fruit has a unique sweet-tart flavour often described as a blend of pineapple, passionfruit and tomato. Delicious eaten fresh from the garden, the berries are equally suited to jams, preserves, desserts, fruit salads and baking. Plants begin producing fruit from autumn and can continue for many months in mild climates. Vigorous and rewarding, Cape Gooseberry is an excellent choice for home gardeners seeking an unusual and highly productive edible crop.

Approximately 60 seeds per packet
