Capsicum annuum

Red Cherry Sweet is a charming heirloom Capsicum producing an abundance of small, round, cherry-shaped fruits with thick, crisp flesh. The compact fruits ripen from green to a glossy bright red, developing a deliciously sweet, mild flavour as they mature.

Perfect for eating fresh, the bite-sized fruits add colour and crunch to salads, platters and lunchboxes. Their small size and substantial walls also make them particularly good for pickling and preserving, or they can be stuffed, roasted or grilled whole.

Plants are productive through the warmer months and perform best in full sun with fertile, well-drained soil and consistent moisture. Regular harvesting encourages continued flowering and fruit production over a long season.

Approximately 18 seeds per packet

When to Plant (Australia)

Tropics: Most of the year, avoiding extreme heat or wet periods
Subtropics: Late winter to summer
Mild climates: Spring to early summer
Cold climates: Spring after frost, preferably started earlier under protection

Planting / Sowing

Sow approximately 5 mm deep into trays or pots and keep warm during germination. Capsicum seed germinates best with consistent warmth and may be slow to emerge in cool conditions.

Transplant seedlings once the weather and soil have warmed, spacing approximately 40–50 cm apart in full sun and fertile, well-drained soil. Maintain consistent moisture during flowering and fruit development.

Harvest green if desired, or allow fruits to ripen fully to bright red for their sweetest flavour.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
