Daucus carota subsp. sativus

All Seasons is a reliable Australian favourite and a particularly popular Carrot variety in Queensland and New South Wales. Producing smooth, well-shaped orange roots approximately 20 cm long, it is valued for its adaptability, good flavour and resistance to virus disease.

The crisp, sweet roots are excellent eaten fresh, grated into salads, roasted, steamed, juiced or added to soups, stews and other cooked dishes. Young thinnings can be harvested and eaten as baby carrots rather than wasted.

Carrots are naturally rich in beta-carotene, which the body converts to vitamin A, as well as providing fibre and a range of other carotenoids and nutrients. Carrots also have a long history of cultivation and medicinal use, with their ancestors originating across Central and Western Asia before becoming an important vegetable crop throughout Europe and eventually the world.

All Seasons performs well across a broad planting window and is particularly useful in warmer Australian climates. For the straightest, best-shaped roots, grow in deeply cultivated, loose, friable soil free from stones and fresh manure.

Seed count: approximately 600–900 seeds/g
Approximately 300 seeds per packet

When to Plant (Australia)

Tropics: Autumn to winter
Subtropics: Most of the year, with best results autumn to spring
Mild climates: Spring to autumn
Cold climates: Spring to early autumn, avoiding periods of heavy frost

Planting / Sowing

Sow directly where plants are to grow, approximately 5–10 mm deep. Carrots dislike transplanting. Keep the surface consistently moist until germination; covering the seed bed with hessian or similar material can help retain moisture, but remove it promptly once seedlings begin to emerge so they receive adequate light.

Thin seedlings to approximately 2–5 cm apart, using the young thinnings as baby carrots. Maintain even moisture as roots develop to help prevent splitting and encourage tender growth.

Rotate carrot crops around the garden rather than repeatedly growing them in the same position to help reduce the build-up of soil-borne pests and diseases.

Maturity: approximately 65–80 days.

Due to quarantine restrictions, TAS has an 800g limit per each seed variety and WA has a 10,000 seeds limit per variety.
